Letter B of A-Z of Food Ideas for Toddlers
Welcome to our A-Z of food ideas for toddlers! This is the letter B, and we've prepared an exciting spread of options to introduce some new flavours. Lately, I've uncovered a way to encourage my boys to be more adventurous eaters – by giving them the freedom to plate their own meal. Not only is it super easy for me, but they are more willing to try new things given the freedom.

First on the menu, we've prepared some mouthwatering black bean burgers, served on a fluffy brioche bun, generously layered with crisp butterleaf lettuce, drizzled with BBQ sauce, and topped with slices of delicious Bega Tasty Cheese. We've paired these with golden and crispy Butternut Squash Fries, adding a delightful twist to the meal.

Next, we've crafted Baby Black Bean Toddler Tacos, featuring a delightful mix of Butternut Squash, creamy Bulgarian Cheese, and wholesome Brown Rice, all cozily nestled inside soft Brown Bread. It's a flavour-packed adventure that's sure to ignite your toddler's taste buds.

And for those sweet cravings, we've whipped up some irresistible Blueberry Bagels, generously smeared with creamy Peanut Butter, and adorned with plump blueberries and banana slices.

To make the Black Bean Burgers

Black Bean Burgers, on a Brioche bun, a drizzle of BBQ sauce, Butterleaf Lettuce and Bega Tasty Cheese Slices. To make these, you'll need:

Makes approx 10 mini patties

  • 1 can of black beans
  • 1/2 bell pepper (capsicum)
  • 1/2 brown onion
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp BBQ sauce

Slightly dry the black beans by placing them in the air fryer for a few minutes, while you sauté the diced bell pepper (capsicum) and onion with garlic. Then, blend the bell pepper and onion with all the spices. In a bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, egg, and sauces, and add the blended mixture. Mash the black beans with a fork into the mixture before forming patties. For a crispy outside, you can add breadcrumbs after shaping the patties.

To make the Butternut Squash Fries

We've paired these delicious black bean burgers with golden and crispy Butternut Squash Fries. To make the fries:

- Cut 1/4 of the butternut squash into fry-sized pieces and place them in an oven-safe tray.
- Add a drizzle of oil.
- Sprinkle with 1/4 tsp paprika, 1/4 tsp garlic powder, and 1/4 tsp cumin.
- Ensure everything is well coated and cook in the air fryer or oven until golden.

To make the Baby Tacos

- Dice up 1/4 of the butternut squash.
- Add a drizzle of oil.
- Sprinkle with 1/4 tsp paprika, 1/4 tsp garlic powder, and 1/4 tsp cumin.
- Ensure everything is well coated and cook in the air fryer or oven until golden.

Once cooked, combine 1 can Black Beans, Brown rice, and Bulgarian feta. This rice mix is delicious on its own, or you can add them to a circular cut piece of brown bread to resemble mini tacos like we have done.
